A Clear Path from First Class to Black Belt

Every student begins somewhere.

Our Taekwondo program gives students a clear, structured path that allows them to build skills gradually, earn meaningful milestones, and grow in confidence as they progress.

Start Strong

Beginners are introduced to Taekwondo in a supportive, step-by-step environment. Students learn the fundamentals, class expectations, and the habits that help them succeed.

Build Skill & Confidence

As students progress through the belt ranks, they develop stronger technique, greater focus, improved fitness, and the confidence that comes from overcoming challenges.

Take on Greater Challenges

Advanced students work toward higher technical standards while developing discipline, responsibility, and a deeper understanding of martial arts.

Grow into Leadership

Black belt is not the end of the journey. Students may continue into advanced training, mentoring, leadership roles, and instructor development as they become positive examples for others.

The goal is not to rush students to black belt. It is to help them become the kind of person capable of earning one.

Frequently Asked Questions About Taekwondo

Not at all. Most students begin with no previous Taekwondo or martial arts experience. Our instructors introduce skills gradually and help new students feel comfortable from their first class.

Douglas Martial Arts offers age-appropriate programs for younger children, school-aged students, teens, and adults. Younger students begin in Little Dragons (age 4), while older children progress into our youth Taekwondo program.

Yes. New students can book a free introductory class to experience the program, meet the instructors, and see whether Douglas Martial Arts is the right fit.

Comfortable athletic clothing is perfect for the first class. Students train barefoot on the mats, so special footwear or martial arts equipment is not required to get started.

Safety is built into how our classes are taught. Students develop skills progressively, practice with appropriate supervision, and learn control before taking part in more advanced partner activities.

Sparring is introduced gradually and taught in a controlled, age-appropriate environment. Students learn safety, timing, distance, and control while using the required protective equipment.

Students progress by developing the required skills, knowledge, focus, and effort for each stage of training. Belt testing recognizes meaningful progress, but students are only invited to test when their instructors believe they are ready.

Every student progresses at a different pace. Earning a Taekwondo black belt requires consistent training, technical development, perseverance, and personal growth over several years. At Douglas Martial Arts, the goal is not to rush students through the ranks—it is to help them become capable of earning each belt.
